5 Signs Your Business Has a Lead Generation Problem

If you’re reading this, it’s most likely because something isn’t quite right with the way your business is currently running, and you’d like to find out if your suspicions are true.

As a marketer, I’ve seen many disasters happen when a business has terrible lead generation funnels. The worst outcome? Going out of business.

To build a profitable and healthy business, you need a constant and predictable stream of leads, especially if you run your business on WhatsApp, where you need to consistently attract new people to notice you. If you don’t do this, you might experience any of the following signs:

Sign 1 – Revenue Feels Empty

One sure sign you have a lead generation problem is terrible cash flow.

Your business, which once made a lot of money, is suddenly struggling to make a fraction of what it used to.

Now you’re wondering if your business is truly your life’s calling or if it’s time to pack up and get a “real” job.

You wake up hoping for a big break, hoping that somehow you’ll get one large order or one referral. You barely get any sales, and it feels like your once-active customers no longer care about you.

You love your business, but these days, it feels like your best option is giving up.

Sign 2 – Your DMs Are Dry

Nothing screams lead generation problem like getting little to no inquiries for weeks. Naturally, this means no sales. And no sales mean no business.

You start to wonder if this is an attack from your village people, or maybe Nigerians truly don’t have money to spend. “It must be the economy,” you tell yourself, but deep down, you know it’s not.

So, you find yourself sighing and saying “God abeg” or “God when” whenever you see your competitors posting screenshots of new sales receipts.

A business with a healthy lead flow should be getting lots of inquiries, which will lead to sales.

When no one reaches out for extended periods, it’s a clear sign your lead magnets may not be converting, and if you don’t fix it, you might soon be out of business.

Sign 3 – You Rely on Referrals Only

You believe that a good product doesn’t need marketing, so you wait for your few customers to talk about you to others. Now, you beg for referrals like your life depends on it because it does.

You send out broadcasts that people ignore. You post memes asking for support from your family and friends with captions like “True friends will buy and patronize your business.”

Let’s be clear, your family and friends are not haters or fake friends. They probably just don’t care about what you’re selling. And even if they do, how many times can they really buy to make you a millionaire?

With a solid lead generation strategy, you can stop disturbing them with memes and start focusing on serving your clients. You’ll stop wondering where your next customer will come from and start selling out, closing deals, and becoming fully booked.

Sign 4 – You Keep Getting Low-Quality or Unqualified Leads

You’re excited when someone finally reaches out to you, but after a few messages, they say things like:

  • “Wow, your stuff is so expensive.”

  • “Another brand sells it cheaper.”

  • “I’m just checking to see if you can solve my problem. I’ll get back to you soon.”

You follow up, and they ignore you like they never contacted you in the first place. And “soon” eventually becomes never.

So now, when people reach out, you’re no longer excited. Instead, you brace yourself for the rejection that follows.

When you generate leads the right way, you’re able to build trust more easily and set the terms early on for what it takes to work with you. As a result, your leads convert better.

Sign 5 – You’re Always Chasing Customers

You’re getting desperate. You slash prices in half. You’re always running sales, yet no one buys.

Now you’re losing confidence not just in your business but in yourself. You start to wonder if you’re truly cut out for this entrepreneurship thing or if you’re better off being Odogwu’s wife.

The truth is, when you generate high-quality leads consistently and build more demand than supply, you can charge higher than market rates because you can afford to.

In Conclusion

If you’re currently experiencing these signs, it means you’re not generating enough leads for your business. It can be a frustrating place to be, but don’t worry, this problem is relatively easy to fix.
